The Sean Nós & The Sea - 2019

This series was made during a return fellowship (residency) at The Ballinglen Arts Foundation.

In this area of North Mayo, I find it impossible to go about my business without being aware of the ancient undertones of the landscape. Someone once told me 'the veil is thin here' and I didn't doubt them. There is an immediacy of the elements and the soil and sky seem to be imbued with sensations of what went before - mass immigration after the land failed but also ancient old ways that connect us to the land. The 'Sean Nós & the Sea' tried to capture those sensations with the sea as a constant.
