Mayo Lakes
My love affair with the Mayo Lakes started before I was born. My father has made a pilgrimage to Lough Mask & Lough Carra, every May to pursue May Fly (with very mixed results) for 50 + years. Fishing on the lakes has become time-out we now share annually. I'm a woeful catch but am entirely lured in by the 24 lifecycle of the May Fly (Ephemera Danica). It has underpinned many residencies on the lakes and multiple exhibitions as a result. Beginning with a residency in The Customs House (Westport 2011) the lakes (and the plant and fly-life inherent) have afforded me time to explore and develop my own visual language, the materials I work with and the scale of my work, while making a response to a place known by heart.
