CORA MURPHY – Irish Landscape Artist

Originally from Ireland, I travelled extensively for 15 years before returning to live in Cork in 2008, when I abandoned conceptual art to focus on painting full time. Although abstract in form, my paintings are landscapes – they capture the essence and emotional significance of a place and / or time. While my influences are broad, my work is largely concerned with the natural world and our place in it

MY WORK & INSPIRATION

I take my inspiration on the land – literally – walking the land and observing nature.

Since moving back to Ireland, I have been fortunate to have been selected for a number of artists residencies. The solitary nature of these retreats has helped me to nurture my own painting style while making a direct response to the landscape.

I work in series principally in oils but enjoy experimenting with mixed media. My most recent work, The Sean Nós & the Sea, was made while on a 5-week fellowship at The Ballinglen Artists Foundation in Co. Mayo. I have previously made bodies of work in the Kerry Gaeltacht (‘Ballads to the Bog’), the Mayo Lakes (‘Tight Lines’) and throughout the country – in ‘Land of Plenty’. I have also created bodies of work in Southern Italy and Mexico. My ‘Mexican Odyssey’ , a body of work made while camping in the Baja Desert, toured Ireland in 2011.

Upon completion my work is released directly and exclusively to my mailing list. Please see the sign-up form below to join.

TESTIMONIALS

Cora excels in painting AND professionalism!! It was a great pleasure to collaborate with Cora on a recent large-scale client commission. The project was marked by its ease – Cora’s clear interpretation of the brief – and delivered on time and in budget, I look forward to our next creation.

I knew I wanted one large ‘statement’ painting in our new home and really enjoyed Cora’s landscapes. Following our initial contact, we had a meeting to discuss the commission before work began. Cora kept me up to speed on progress via facetime but it was still thrilling to see our own painting in-situ! Our painting is very much at the heart of our home – and is proving to be something of a backdrop to our lives! It’s great company by day and by night – I can’t imagine our home without it now!

Painting with Cora = Massive learning curve! Heaps of hints, tips and teaching! Never ending enthusiasm and so much fun. Massive confidence boost and now able to show my work with pride! Thoroughly recommend.

I became a collector by accident! Having bought a small painting by Cora many years ago in London, I kept up with her online and began to buy pieces from the collections as they were released directly online. I am now the proud owner of 3 paintings and 2 prints. I enjoy my artworks – literally every day. It’s a gift (to myself!) that lasts a lifetime. I look forward to living with my paintings for many, many years to come before passing them along for the next generation to enjoy

My 1-2-1 sessions with Cora were one of the best things I have done as an artist. Cora has a huge, sense of fun and adventure as a teacher. She is hugely supportive and encouraging. She also provided enough challenge to push me out of my comfort zone. She has helped me to find my own unique voice as an artist and to keep my passion alive.
